Business & Marketing Opportunities

Solano County is located between San Francisco and Sacramento.  It is fertile ground for growing businesses.  Solano offers its modern infrastructure networks, affordable commercial and residential properties, and a skilled work force.

Fairfield, the county capital and business center is formed out of the intersecting highways I-80, I-680 and 12. Fairfield is about 25 minutes from I-5. It is 30-40 minutes from San Francisco, and Sacramento. Solano is served by rail, air and shipping facilities.

Growth in the business-to-business field is anticipated for many reasons including the fact that many businesses from Sacramento and San Francisco continue to serve growing Solano county. Local professional service businesses are filling this gap. The service business is now the largest sector of Solano's economy. The governments of Fairfield City and Solano County try hard to attract jobs in the high paying professional business sector.

Some of the largest companies attracted to Solano County include:  Boeing Aero-space Operations, Inc. BP Solar, General Mills Inc., Genentech, Gymboree, Institutional Financial Services, Jelly Belly, North Bay Financial, North Bay Healthcare, Phillip Environmental, WestAmerica Bank, and United Airlines.  Growing Solano County is just reaching the 400,000-population mark.

Innovation and education in Solano includes biotech like at Genentech; the nearby University of California at Berkeley and Davis; Innovation Institute; California State University - California Maritime Academy; Solano College Small Business Development Center; Solano Economic Development Corp;  Solano Incubator; Aeronautics at Travis World Patent Rights; etc.

Solano is 834 square miles, with over one million people within a 30 mile radius of Fairfield.  The smaller city of Suisun, is a three-minute drive from central Fairfield, it is a charming Victorian town with recently built commercial and residential properties around its waterfront that feature work, live lofts.  It also has a newly remodeled yacht harbor with boat launch, a bus and train station on Main St, (under Highway 12).

Solano County’s, Fairfield and Suisun, feature quality restaurants, coffee shops, live theater, jazz festivals, and much more.

A short drive from the bustling city leads to wonderful natural areas in the hills and small farms where locally grown fruit and vegetables can be bought at fruit stands when in season. The people are usually friendly and easy to do business with.

Solano's economic growth has many reasons. They include its cost-effective location near Sacramento and San Francisco, and skilled affordable labor pool. Average home sale prices in central Solano are in the $200,000’s range, well less than the inner bay area.  Other county homes are in the millions. New businesses are attracted by cost-effective, furnished professional office space, designed to accommodate minimal initial investment, without the traditional commitment to long leases, business equipment, and furnishings.

Solano is one of California's fastest growing counties, and the fastest on the west coast in different professional service sectors. Solano's forward thinking and pro-business governments continue to attract more businesses, especially from the more congested San Francisco and Sacramento areas.  People prefer the charming easy life of the outer bay area, while remaining near the inner bay area, and Sacramento. Fairfield's intersecting highway system allows easy to access nearby markets. Solano has the best sales tax for the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento areas.

Recreational activities include golf, with private and public courses, 1,000 miles of waterways, for fishing, and boating; Lake Berryessa, picnicking, water-skiing and swimming; hiking in the pristine hill areas (thanks to county board supervisor Duane Kromm's help); also orchards and vineyards in Suisun and Napa, (Solano’s next door neighbors); Fairfield's Center for Creative Arts; Affordable art and recreational classes at Solano Community College, and much more.  Berkeley and downtown San Francisco are usually only a 25 to 40 minute drive.

Solano's informative newspaper The Daily Republic, carefully covers useful local, national and world events. It's archived articles on local business events are free on-line.

The University of CA at Davis’s intellectual community just east of Solano County on highway I-80 relies on The Davis Enterprise Newspaper.
